So the flu hit our house with a vengeance this week. My husband was diagnosed on monday with Influenza B and was off work recovering. Then on Wednesday we had the big snow storm blow through and school was delayed 2 hours. Well my son called me worried about what time to catch the bus and during the conversation he mentioned that he thought he had the same thing as hubby. Well me being that overly concerned mom told him (in not exact words) that you're fine, you still have to go to school.
Well low and behold a couple hours later I get a call from the school nurse that he was running a 103 degree fever, etc. Told her that yep is going around our house, well she was going to quarantine him until someone picked him up. Of course this was a week that I was commuting to a job location 45 minutes away. I called the house with no answer and I kinda panicked thinking that the hubby although home was probably sleeping, and wouldn't wake up forever. So I called my mother-in-law (MIL) who works in town and asked if she could possibly pick him up from school and take him to our house. I have to say that my MIL is absolutely awesome, doesn't bat an eye and says she's on it.
I get a call later from my hubby saying he missed my call because he was in the shower and could have picked him up. But like I said I panicked with the thought of the nurse wanting the kid out of the school asap, and not having the ability to just go and get him. I hate having to ask people for favors, even when it was a single mom, hated having to rely on other people. It becomes a necessary thing but didn't want someone to think I was taking advantage of them.
Well I was able to leave work early that afternoon to take my son to the doctors office. Hubby being super nice offered to take him but I figured that a sick person taking another sick person to the doctor's office probably should be avoided. So the doc didn't actually test him for influenza B since it was already in our house and had the same symptoms. And the doctor suggested I contact my midwife to see if they wanted me to take some meds also as a precautionary measure.
So it was Tamiflu for all!
